ESSENTIAL- Light Red  This is a great fire-engine red.  (You can also use Perylene Red or Permanent Red Light in its place.)

ESSENTIAL- Medium Red. A must have!  A bluish-red pigment listed on the basic palette of a vast majority of artists.  You can also use Quinacridone Rose or Rose Madder in its place.)

ESSENTIAL- Dark Red  A wonderful deep reddish-brown tone.  (Can also use Perlyene Maroon) 

ESSENTIAL-  Light Yellow This is the nicest yellow ever and very versitile!

ESSENTIAL- Medium Yellow  A  clean lemon yellow color that is awesome!  (Can also use Lemon Yellow) 

ESSENTIAL- Dark Yellow  A vibrant warm yellow that you'll discover many uses for!  (Can also use Indian Yellow)

ESSENTIAL- Light Blue  A great light blue.  Make sure you get just Cerulean Blue not Cerulean Blue Chromium.

ESSENTIAL- Medium Blue  A basic blue, closest to a primary blue as you can get!

ESSENTIAL- Dark Blue  An amazing blue to make dark values with!

ESSENTIAL- Light Green  This is a green light yellow green and works well underneath sap green or mixed with natural colors. (Can also use Spring Green)

ESSENTIAL- Medium- Dark Green  A great natural green value that you will enjoy using!

ESSENTIAL- Light Brown  A must have!  You'll be surprised at how much you'll use this!  

ESSENTIAL- Medium Brown  A lighter brown great for natural scenes. 

ESSENTIAL- Dark Brown  This is a great dark value. (Can also use asphaltum or raw umber.)

ESSENTIAL-  A great medium purple.  (Can also use Imperial Purple)

ESSENTIAL-  This color is so striking and mixes well with other colors.  It's definitely one you want!

ESSENTIAL-  A great secondary color ready to use instead of mixing your own! (Can also use Cad Orange Hue)

ESSENTIAL-  A set of three different brush sizes.

ESSENTIAL-  You'll need a variety of round brushes.  This is a great set.

ESSENTIAL-  You'll need an 18-24 well palette for your paints.  This is just one of the many available.  I really like this one because it gives you some extra mixing areas and still holds 24 colors!

ESSENTIAL-  Arches 140# white watercolor paper.  There are other brands out there but this is what I recommend.  Working with good watercolor paper will make all the difference in the world!  This is the only paper I ask my students to use. 

SECONDARY-  A masking fluid of some kind will be used every once in a while.  I prefer the Fineline Fluid but any type will do.  

SECONDARY-  A permanent black ink pen used for "line & wash" art.  Can also use pigma pens of different thicknesses.

SECONDARY-  I love to use a cloth diaper instead of a paper towel to wipe your brushes off.  They last for a very long time, then you can wash them and reuse! 

SECONDARY-  A spray bottle is a great tool to help you keep your watercolors moist.  I love this continuous spray bottle, but any type or size of a spray bottle will work.

ESSENTIAL- Drawing Pencil set-  make sure you get the medium set so you have the widest variety of pencil leads. 

ESSENTIAL-  You'll need at least two of these kneaded erasers.  One for graphite drawing and the other for charcoal drawing.  These erasers can molded to any shape and erase by rubbing back and forth or pressing and lifting.  

ESSENTIAL-  Just about any white eraser will work, I prefer these inexpensive erasers. 

OPTIONAL-  A great eraser for small areas.  

SECONDARY-  Any type of drafting brush to brush the eraser crumbs off your paper without smearing it.  I really like this hake brush.

ESSENTIAL-  Small sketchbooks are perfect for our warm-ups exercises.  Any inexpensive brand will do for this.

ESSENTIAL-  A book of drawing paper (not sketch) is great for your drawing projects. 

ESSENTIAL-  A ruler or T-square is essential.  These are great for grid work and other measurements! 

ESSENTIAL- We will be putting a reference book together of all the different watercolor techniques and tips.  You can use whatever brand you would like but make sure it holds at least 50 photos and is 5X7.
